CIT 315: Methods of Teaching English equips student teachers with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to teach English effectively as a second language. The course covers the purposes and challenges of English language teaching, language-learning theories, ICT integration, and appropriate teaching methods. It develops practical skills in teaching grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as integrating the four language skills. Learners also develop competence in lesson planning, preparation of schemes of work, selection of teaching resources, assessment and evaluation. Overall, the course prepares creative, competent and reflective English language teachers capable of addressing diverse learner needs in secondary schools.
