Introduction to Nature and Scope of Analytical Chemistry.  Classification of analytical methods: General considerations in analysis; choice of method, sampling and sample treatment (solid, liquid and gas). Data assessment and quality of data; statistical analysis of experimental analytical data: variability of analytical data, error, standard deviation, and significance tests. Assessment of analytical methods: principles and practice of precision measurement in chemistry, accuracy, sensitivity, and specification. Basic techniques in quantitative analysis: gravimetric methods of analysis, titrimetric methods and complexometric methods. Practicals will cover experiments in non-chromatographic analyses.
